Litchfield is a city in Hillsdale County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,458.
The city is situated within Litchfield Township, but is politically independent.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.2 km2 (2.4 mi2). 6.2 km2 (2.4 mi2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Litchfield also has the St. Joseph River flowing close to the down town area, within the city limits. Litchfield has a growing industrial base and is centrally located in Southern Mid-Michigan.
